Make Breakfast Fun....

For some moms the end of August means that you need to get back into the school routine, getting the kids up early and feeding them breakfast at an early hour so they are not starving in the middle of the day. This is where I think most working moms have this down and almost never get out of habit (with the exception of vacation). For us (atleast me, anyway) it's a school morning every morning. The girls are in daycare which is what we call school here in this house. So we try to make breakfast fun. One of my favorite things is homemade pancakes. I make 4x batch and then freeze them, for quick easy breakfasts. Recipe coming soon.

I whipped up a batch of pancakes and decided to add alittle bit of purple food coloring (the girls favorite color). They loved it.

Oh in case you are wondering, yes they are chocolate chip purple pancakes!

Grocery Shopping

So I have been reading the Grocery Cart Challenge for several weeks now and I have been thinking if she can feed a family of 6 on $60 a week, then I can do it for 3 on $30. Then I started really thinking about it... With DD's milk allergy, I purchase high end vegan subsitutes for her like vegan cheese, sour cream, soy milk, etc. These things are expensive, but I don't want her to miss out on things like having tacos, and lasagna. So we will have to sacrfice in other areas to make up for that. So I have set our weekly grand total for $40, if I can get it close to $30 even better. But $40, is our max. So here is our weekly trip. Sorry I don't have a picture to post with this one. Giant 8 o'clock coffee $2.25 (on sale) Fels Napa Soap $0.99 Washing Soda $2.37 Giant brand whole wheat hamburger rolls $2.49 Giant ...

Meal Plan Monday - 3/16/09

There is a switcharue this week. Erin over at $5 dinners is hosting this week. You can check out everyone else's great meal plans and see what is cooking around town. So last week was a crazy one for us. Daddy and I both got a stomach flu and then at the end of the week and this whole weekend, we took on a DIY project of redoing our flooring in our foyer. I will post pics later this week. So there are alot of repeats on the menu this week do to the craziness of last week. Oh and I don't have anything listed for what I am packing for Sassy's lunches because school hasn't put up the new menu yet for the week. Monday: Meatloaf, Mixed Veggies, Salad Tuesday: Corned Beef & Cabbage, carrots, potatoes & salad Wednesday: French Toast & Blueberries Thursday: Chicken/ Beef Fajitas on tortillas with peppers, onions, sour cream, cheese Friday: Oven-Fried Chicken Tenders & Homemade Fries Saturday: Buffet of Leftovers Sunday: BBQ Pork Sandwiches on WW Rolls with Salad

Birthday Cake Recipe

So I forgot to add a Birthday cake to this week's menu plan. It was Daddy's birthday on Wednesday. However, with both of our work schedules as crazy as they are we didn't get to celebrate it till Monday. In the morning, I made him his favorite breakfast of all time, a good southern breakfast of bacon, fried eggs, homemade biscuits, and gravy. Then after dinner we had a birthday cake. With Sassy's milk allergy however, I cannot exactly go to the store and pick up a cake. (Plus they are expensive) So off to the Grandma's cookbooks I went. My favorite is the Woman's Home Companion Cook Book published in 1944. If you can get your hands on a good cookbook from the 40's it's well worth your money. These books were printed during the war and right after the depression, so all most all the recipes contain staples that are in your pantry everyday; are not expensive to buy and have modifications to them in case you have already used your ration of sugar, etc. Thes...
